![]() ![]() The Touch Bar seemed like an interesting concept during its initial release, but Apple did very little to follow up with it. After five years, Apple has decided to do away with the novelty feature. According to Apple, the Touch Bar was intended to create a dynamic, interactive user experience. It’s a small strip of touch screen located right above the keyboard, replacing the row of function keys. Apple made a splash with the release of the 2016 MacBook Pro by introducing the Touch Bar. One thing we immediately noticed about the new MacBook Pro was the absence of the signature Touch Bar. It’s safe to say that overheating as we know it would be extremely rare for this machine. The fans seldom turn on for most daily tasks. This lets the fans to “move 50% more air, even at lower fan speeds,” according to Apple. Air intake vents are located on three sides of the device. Thorough and effective coolingĪnother notable feature of the design of the 2021 MacBook Pro is the new ventilation and cooling system. The SD card reader is especially helpful to videographers most of us dread carrying around extra bits and pieces like external card readers. Other ports on the new MacBook Pro include an HDMI port for connecting to external displays, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a MagSafe 3 port for quick and efficient charging, and a built-in SDXC card reader. This is a slight downgrade from the previous model of the MacBook Pro, which had four Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports. Each has charging capabilities and can connect to external drives and devices with speeds of up to 40 Gb/s. This update features three Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports. This can be important to some editors and other creative professionals who need a powerful, portable machine. The increase is minimal and the size still offers convenience when taking your work on the go. That system weighed 4.3 lbs (2.0 kg) with a thickness of 0.64 inches when closed. This of course is a slight increase in weight and thickness from its predecessor, the 16-inch 2019 MacBook Pro. It’s also surprisingly slim - 0.66 inches tall when closed. ![]() This particular model (16-inch display with M1 Max chip) weighs about 4.8 lbs (2.2 kg). The new MacBook Pro has a sleek and modern design. At the end of this review, we will discuss the pricing and availability for this new machine. Then, we’ll get into how it performed during testing. First, we’ll talk about some of the most notable features the MacBook Pro has to offer. The new MacBook Pro underwent several tests of day-to-day use, as well as efficiency tests for editing video and audio. We’ll dive deeper into what we liked and what we didn’t like throughout this review. We here at Videomaker got a first look at the 16-inch model of the new MacBook Pro powered by the all-new M1 Max chip. Additionally, the new MacBook Pro has an impressive battery life, a crystal-clear Liquid Retina XDR display and many other noteworthy features that make it an extremely powerful machine. According to Apple, the new MacBook Pro features “groundbreaking processing, graphics, and machine learning (ML) performance” while plugged in or running on battery. More exciting, it’s powered by the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, which are the first pro chips designed for the MacOS. It is available in 14-inch and 16-inch displays and two different finishes. ![]() Those of us with the notch can’t fit as much as those without, but we benefit from a bigger screen and more vertical space for content as a trade-off.Apple’s new MacBook Pro hit the shelves in late October, and this one is promised to be a game-changer. People with 11" MacBook Airs couldn’t fit as much as those with 13" MacBook Airs, but was Apple to ‘blame’? Those people benefitted from a smaller, lighter computer as a trade-off. I’m not sure there’s some objective value of the minimum amount of space Apple should provide in the menubar. It’s true that Apple have taken some space away, but there’s still space for quite a lot of icons on the right side. There’s limited space in the menubar on any laptop so anyone using a non-trivial number of menubar apps/icons will benefit from some management. Even without the notch on my old MacBook Air I needed Bartender because I didn’t have enough space for all my menubar apps when using certain apps that have a lot of menus. But this was always the case, there’s only so much one can fit in a given space. But beyond a certain number of icons up there, it becomes necessary. No one has to buy Bartender to use a couple of third party apps in the menubar. I’m not sure Apple’s really to blame or should be ashamed. Shame on Apple for forcing this situation on, and not providing a solution. I think it’s ridiculous that one would have to buy and use an app like Bartender on a new contemporary MBP, just to be able to see and use 3rd party apps that appear on the menu bar. ![]()
